Birthday Party!

Last week we celebrated Asa's 4th birthday. He wanted a Batman Birthday, so I decided I'd give this home made cake thing another try. It went much better...Note to self: start baking the cake about noon for a 7pm party in order to give it ample time to cool so it can be decorated. This was a super simple cake to make though. When I was surfing the web for cake ideas Asa was sitting next to me and we came across a Robin cake. He really wanted that one, but I forced him to have the batman one because I wanted to HA! He was super excited none the less.

Asa came away with some pretty good presents that included this batman helicopter, a coat, a couple outfits, handheld game, RC car, action figures, and other things that I can't recall at this time. It was a good time!

A new skill

Anyone who has known me my whole life knows that my life has always revolved around being creative. I was always spending my time in lah lah land making up stories, drawing or playing with sculpy. Somewhere along the line during my jr high and high school + years I lost this part of me.  About 2 years ago, just after Coen was born, it came back.  And over time I've been spending my time redeveloping my lost creativity, and learning new skills. One of these new skills happens to be sewing/quilting. A couple of months ago we got twin beds for the boys and that sparked a wild hair to make blankets for the kids' new beds.  It only took me about 6 weeks from start to finish to construct and quilt two twin sized quilts. It was so fun!  So here they are.  I am going to make some pillows, but haven't had a chance to yet.
Here is an up close on the quilting.  Not the best picture, but you get the idea.

Halloween 2009

Our Halloween festivities started off Thursday when we took Asa up the Heber Creeper's Haunted Canyon.  Coen was supposed to go, but he started his day off with a cough, so Grandma Kathy kept him home.  We thought it was going to be freezing cold.  When we got there we found out the train cars are actually heated! Oh well.  Next time we will know. Asa thought the train was so fun.  He loved watching out the window and I think he was a little scared.

On Friday we had a halloween costume party to go to.  Cody and I are dressed up as the Joker and his girl friend Harley Quinn, and the boys are Batman and Robin.  Asa has been obsessed with batman for quite some time.  I think he was more excited than anyone that Cody and I were dressed in theme.  I still can't believe I went out in public in a unitard! Oh, the things we do for our kids!
Cody took Saturday off (big shocker, he never takes a day off) and we decided we'd head to corn belly's. Asa and Coen had a great time.  Not pictured is the scary monster we went inside.  The boys hated every second of it.  Asa is still afraid of it and last night he thought every weird noise was the monster coming to get us. Cody and I are still laughing about it.  Mean parents I know. They rode the cow train....
...played in the corn kernels....
....and of course the corn maze that was so trampled we only walked around a little bit just to make the boys feel like we'd done everything.
Then of course trick or treating.  The weather was actually decent.  We hit more houses than we ever have. Asa was pretty excited to go out, aside from being scared that the monster would find us out and about.  Coen would say trick or treat and then thank everyone for the candy.  Here's our little Robin

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Today is the day that my dearest turns 28. It's amazing to think that we've been together nearly half our lives. I can't imagine my life with out him. He is most definitely my bestest friend. We started dating just after he turned 17. It's been so magnificent to witness his amazingness first hand. He has got to be the hardest most dedicated person I've ever known. He puts his mind to succeeding in something and doesn't stop till he does. He's a huge example to me in that regard.

This is the Cody I met, always riding his motorcycle.

Crazy Kyle Busch Fan

Wonderful husband, who I know would do anything for me.

A great example

A supporting Daddy
Who likes to have fun
Who also probably won't even know I made a blog post just for his birthday. he thinks birthday's are just another day, and thinks they are over rated.

Happy Birthday Babe. I love you.

Flash Back

So here's Asa on October 20th 2007. There must be something about little kids and brownies!

And here's Coen September 29th 2009. I find it ironic that they are both in pajamas eating brownie batter mid day. Yes some days we just don't get dressed

NOw, I have made brownies a few more times within this two year span....just not very often!

Working Hard

Asa randomly decides some days that he's supposed to go to work. Lately they have been having him help. Normally he helps vacuum the cars out, but by the looks of things, today he got to help put the oil in! And in his slight OCD-ness he doesn't want his hands dirty! So funny. Cody sent this to me from his phone, so it's not the best quality, but it's still funny. I sure love those guys!

Coen, Coen, Coen

Yea I know, I'm over a week late on posting Coen's birthday and other random shots.  But better late than never is the way I see it.

In this picture Coen found this bow and loved it.  He's so silly!
Getting ready to be a jumping boy here.
Here we are on his birthday.  We opened presents first, well I should say ASA opened presents first.  He just couldn't stand it, he had to be right in there opening the presents.  I couldn't get him out of the way long enough for Coen to do anything with it.  I will admit it was frustrating to me.
Oh yes, the cake.  Well this is the 2nd cake.  I had great visions of a spider man cake and it all was going fine until the actual baking of the cake was to happen.  I don't know what happened with the cake mix, but it totally did not work. And becuase I was rushed for time, I was trying to make it work and it all just got worse.  MeeMah came to the rescue and picked up a cake for us at Albertsons.  Coen didn't care one single bit about the cake though. Luckily.  I'll have to practice for Asa's!
He was excited to sit next to his cake and couldn't wait to dig in!  He even chimed in on singing happy bday to himself.  It was so cute.
He loved the elmo and big bird cars that were on the cake.
Here he is playing with one of the toys he got.
I was trying really hard to get a picture of him with his loot, but he wouldn't have it.  This is the best I could get.
He got a rug for cars, a coat, an outfit, cars for the rug, spider man scooter (that is being returned because it's a pile of turd), his baby blanket, toy motorcycle, book, and a puzzle.

Asa Asa Asa

Asa has had this thing for a while with doing his own hair.  I thought this hair do was HILARIOUS so I had to take pictures.  He's such a ham sometimes and was totally "working" the camera.   He told me the other day after fixing his hair that he was "Freaking cute" oh yea you are buddy!

I think he's showing us all how he achieved the look he was after.

Asa kept talking about Gymnastics everytime he'd go to soccer.  So I decided to let him try it out for September.  This was his first day.  He is one of two boys out of 15 total. I'm not letting him know it's a big deal of being outnumbered.  He hasn't even noticed. He was pretty attentive and followed directions really well.  I think he likes it okay, but it's really "proper" gymnastics with holding the arms up and all.  I think he mainly wants to do flips and stuff.  I"m not sure we'll sign up again for next month.

I got a wild hair and decided I'd move the boys together in Asa's bedroom.  I picked up a couple of twin mattresses and set them up.  Coen so far LOVES his new bed in Asa's room, and Asa not so much.  He lasts in his new bed till about midnight-1am-ish.  I've been hyping up this new bed thing for a couple of weeks, and am making them quilts and he's acted all excited until it came down to actually SLEEPING in the new bed. Here is a picture of him enjoying his new bed just after I set it up. It's not even clean at all yet.

Asa has been telling us for several weeks now that he's growing his hair like Grandpa Tom (my dad with a pony tail).  And today out of blue he said he wanted to cut his hair.  So we went to Kookie Kutters in Lehi and he got to pick his "ride" while got his hair cut.  They  had several different ride on toys and he picked the motorcycle
And here's the after.  He looks darling with his hair cut though.
I finished the quilt tops today and I was trying to take a picture of the finished tops and Asa was posing for me.  So I thought I'd add these pictures for Asa's tribute.  He looks like a whole different boy to me with his hair cut!
